SCHOLARSHIP

Each year, the Pikes Peak Writers organization offers a limited number of scholarships to aspiring writers who could not otherwise afford to attend the Pikes Peak Writers Conference. Since 1993, scholarships have been made possible by generous contributions from friends of PPW and participants of the Pikes Peak Writers Conference.

What does a scholarship include?

Scholarships to the Pikes Peak Writers Conference consist of either a full registration fee to the conference, a half registration fee to the conference, or a full registration fee to the Thursday Prequel.  (Please note that a half registration fee means that 50% of the cost is covered in the scholarship and the other 50% of the cost must be covered by the recipient.  A half registration does not entitle the recipient to “half of a conference”.) Scholarship recipients are required to volunteer onsite during the conference, and following, submit a 100-200 word marketing blurb or an article to the PPW blog, Writing From the Peak, about your experience at the conference. Failure to do so will disqualify recipients from receiving scholarships to future conferences.

Who can apply?

Any writer, 18 years or older, of any level of writing ability. Applicants residing outside the Colorado Springs area are eligible for scholarships. However, because scholarships do not cover transportation or lodging costs, out-of-area applicants should explain in their applications how they plan to deal with those costs.

When should I apply?

Applications are being accepted now through February 9, 2025.

How do I apply for a scholarship?

Use our online scholarship application form, which can be found here. On the application form, we will ask for your contact information, as well as an application letter and writing sample. The application letter should describe your writing aspirations, experience, and financial need. The writing sample should be a selection representative of your best writing. While a fiction sample is not necessary, please be advised this is a fiction-focused writing conference.

What happens after I send my application?

Applicants will receive an email acknowledgment of application receipt within twenty-four hours. If you do not receive an acknowledgment, please check your spam folders. If you still can’t find the acknowledgement, contact us using the form below. All applicants will be contacted as to the final status of their request no later than February 15, 2025.
